With any decent show you get into, there will always be that one character which sets your teeth on edge.
As somebody who has kept a log of character’s I’d happily knock flying given the opportunity, I felt it was best to share my personal list and see what everybody else thinks.
The usual heads up; I’ll be going over characters and the reasons WHY I loathe them so much. If you’ve yet to finish or even start a show and don’t want them ruined for your viewing experience, then please proceed with caution.
Grab a fire extinguisher and let’s get started.
13) Light Yagami (Death Note)
Let’s start “lightly” shall we? Heh, puns.
As I’ve stated before, I have never been able to get into Death Note and most of the reasons why involve this walking definition of a god-complex. Short entry but I honestly don’t want to keep harping on this show just because I don’t like it.
12) Hawk (The Seven Deadly Sins)
Kojurio helped me to remember this entry!
Ah, Hawk. At first, he was tolerable… For about five minutes. Then we just got episode after episode of his high-pitched screeching, some may find it endearing but I find it plain irritating. At least he has a cute design.
11) Lyserg Diethel (Shaman King)
Love Shaman King, love the fact that we’ve got an upcoming remake this year and I love the majority of the cast.
Lyserg, however? Nope.
I will admit, he has a cool design and I loved the fact that his outfit pays homage to Sherlock Holmes. However, that’s all I’m giving him. He has little character besides “REVENGE!” and extremely shallow to boot, choosing to abandon the people who accepted him, casting them aside when a better opportunity arises.
Generic and unlikeable, he deserves a spot on this list.
10) Neji Hyuuga (Naruto/Naruto: Shippuden)
Kojurio also helped me out with this one too. While I do admit that in the earlier parts of Naruto, I wanted to punch this arrogant kid so bad. However, I grew pretty indifferent to Neji’s character after he received a massive dose of talk-no-jutsu and only became relevant towards the ending of Shippuden.
Still, his overall attitude towards others during his introduction is what earns him a place on this list. After all, first impressions are always key, right?
9) Sir Nighteye/Mirai Sasaki (My Hero Academia)
I’m grabbing my shield for this one.
To put it simply; I’m not a fan of Nighteye. At all.
I don’t like the fact that he purposefully took on the main protagonist as an intern just to try and deter him from becoming All Might’s successor and I HATE the fact that he was never called out on how he treated said-student.
In a show where the majority of the characters are so likeable -even the villains- I’m truly saddened to have to add this one to the list.
8) Lucy Heartfilia (Fairy Tail)
Many people will probably agree with this entry.
Lucy started off as a quirky, fun and genuinely enjoyable character. At first, her attitude towards facing enemies in battle was understandable, she was a rookie mage. But when we get into later arcs, her little act quickly grew stale along with her constant tears.
When the final arcs came round and she was still crying instead of… Oh, I don’t know, doing something, many fans (myself included) just ended up rolling our eyes every time the show panned back to her.
7) Sylph (Black Clover)
One word; Annoying.
Yuno needs to invest in a fly swatter, BIG time.
6) Leo Akaba (Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc V)
I could honestly rag on about why I dislike this character forever… However, gotta keep it short and sweet!
With other characters on this list, you get several words that pop into your head when you think of them. For Leo? Selfish is the first and only word that comes to mind immediately, especially when you discover that he’s been hunting four girls just to use their lives in forfeit so he can try to revive his daughter.
A man that puts his own wants and needs over a group of innocent people who were content with their own separate lives makes him well-deserving of a spot on this list.
5) Yuka (Elfen Lied)
To simply summarise Yuka? She has barely any character and spends the ENTIRE show whining and crying about the guy she’s in love with; her cousin, Kouta.
With each episode, she got more toxic with her deep jealousy and possessiveness over Kouta and that just proved to irk us even more. Like Leo Akaba, I could go on forever about Yuka’s genuine unlikeable-nature but I’ll end it here.
4) Rachel (Tower of God)
This one’s for you, Kojurio.
Anybody who has read the manhwa and watched the anime that premiered around this time last year, fans of this franchise will gather together to chant out about their hatred for this character.
She makes a bad impression from the start, running away from her only friend and disappearing. She then avoids him and hides from him, while being totally aware that he’s desperate to find her.
And then the finale episode airs and the fandom blows up. Enough said.
3) Yukio Okumura (Blue Exorcist)
I’m probably going to get hate for this entry.
To put it simply, I understand Yukio’s frustrations with his situation regarding his heritage but that does not give him the right to stand there with a straight face while aiming a gun at his own brother’s head.
Regardless of your feelings, Yukio. You can’t take out your anger on somebody who, like you, never asked for the life you are currently living.
2) Myne/Princess Malty S Melromarc (The Rising of the Shield Hero)
Anybody who makes these kinds of lists always expect Myne to make an appearance and for very good reason.
A skilled manipulator with a cruel and calculating personality, she loves to watch Naofumi and his party suffer repeatedly throughout the show. Fortunately though, this made the scene of her trial all the more satisfying when her mother called her out on all the bull she put them through.
Twisted and even willing to kill her own young sister to succeed her parents’ throne, Myne will always be towards the top of any kind of list like this
An Honourable Mention: Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto/Naruto Shippuden)
Arrogant, overconfident and has a major superiority complex…What’s there not to love?
Said no-one ever.
