What Is Good About Elfen Lied (エルフェンリート)
The world of Elfen Lied is set in the town of Kamakura, a beautiful place on the coast of Japan.
While I do like SOME of the character designs, like the Diclonii girls’, my main interest is the SET of the manga. The backgrounds, weapons, vehicles, houses etc. are all drawn very realistically. Now if only some of the characters had realistic personalities…
Anybody who’s read the final chapter of the manga will know what I’m talking about. It’s beautifully tragic that makes you reach for the nearest tissue box every time.
What Is Bad About Elfen Lied (エルフェンリート)
This is only aimed at certain characters. Many of them, such as Lucy/Nyuu, Mayu and Nana are very interesting and sympathetic. However, the two cousins? Ugh. Kouta is absolutely oblivious half the time and Yuka is straight up irritating. There’s a reason why she made this list a while back.
When I first checked out this title, I adored it but going back and reading it now that I’m a lot older?
I can sum it up like this: Humans bad. Humans evil. The end.
While I have critiqued this manga quite considerably, I must say that it DOES hold a place in my heart. It brings back memories of my teenage years when I was still quite new to manga, anime, manhwa etc. If you’re a fan of gritty action with plenty of gore and tragic moments, give Elfen Lied a go and see what you think.
