What Is Good About Fullmetal Alchemist (강철의 연금술사)

The Story

My GOODNESS, the story.

It’s absolutely beautiful. Telling a simple tale of two brothers mourning the loss of their kindhearted mother and turning it into a tragic story of overcoming hardship despite the massive obstacles they have to face. I really love how alchemy is incorporated into the plot, being treated as a fantasy-esque ability while also giving nods to the original definition too.

It’s a nice touch.

The Main Protagonists

Let’s face it.

The brotherly bond between the two main protagonists, Ed and Al, are the reason why so many of us adore this beautiful manga.

Strength is the best word I can use to describe both boys. They go through SO MUCH throughout the manga but constantly are there for one another and provide each other with great support and faith that often will bring a tear to a reader’s eye.

What Is Bad About Fullmetal Alchemist (강철의 연금술사)

Adaptation Confusion

Oh dear.

I’ve used this entry in a few other reviews but I truly do believe this counts as an issue for manga. So basically, there are two different versions of Fullmetal Alchemist.

The anime adaptation from 2003 and FMA: Brotherhood. Both follow the manga storyline, however, due to the manga still being on-going during 2003’s airtime, the plot diverted and a non-canon ending was given to the series. Brotherhood followed the manga from start to finish, however, to this day, fans often do get confused over the two series.

I personally find enjoyment in both, but I know many have their own set opinions.

Overall Conclusion

If you’ve ever watched the anime, then please check out this wonderful manga. Any fans of the original anime, Brotherhood or sci-fi fantasy in general, you’ll certainly love this title.
