What Is Good About Mairimashita! Iruma-Kun
I like how it starts off in the normal world and I like how out of nowhere in the first chapter you are just thrust into a new realm, a demon realm. You get a new look at how demon society acts differently from human society, like how Iruma reads out a dangerous curse and everyone goes crazy in a good way, whereas if you were to read something obscene like that in the real world you’d be judged and people would be horrified as opposed to cheering you on for reading it out.
The art style is very cartoony and they take advantage of the fact that it’s set in a demon world, especially its atmosphere where there are a lot more whackier things going on, such as simple things like background characters which make the world feel a lot more animated. Simple things like mythological creatures are an everyday sight in the demon world as opposed to the human world where they are just stories/myths.
The main characters are extremely diverse. An example would be Iruma’s adoptive grandfather, Sullivan, is a high-ranked demon, yet when we are first introduced to him in chapter 1 we get the feeling he is a very horrible demon overlord. However, we soon learn that he simply wants a grandchild as he feels left out from his fellow demons and their families.
Another example would be Iruma’s two close friends, Asmodeus and Clara. Like Sullivan, Asmodeus is introduced as an uppity, stuck-up model student. He challenges Iruma to a fight and gets utterly destroyed even though Iruma doesn’t land a single hit on him, and instead, due to the aforementioned curse Iruma had earlier spoken of, he defeats Asmodeus with a German suplex. We then get to see just how loyal and caring Asmodeus is towards Iruma after this and he compliments the other main character, Clara, so well.
Clara, on the other hand, is very hyper-active, loud and very charismatic. However, most characters like Clara often are hated with these tropes, but the way the writer develops her character, you truly don’t get any of that. Instead, you want to see Clara have real friends, due to many people using her for her ability to create anything she’s seen, so when Iruma and Asmodeus come into her life, it’s a real feel-good moment for all three of them.
From our current knowledge, Mairimashita! Iruma-kun updates every week. Even if this changes in the near future, we are guaranteed at least monthly updates.
What Is Bad About Mairimashita! Iruma-Kun
Some character designs
It’s just a personal gripe, some of their designs I find a bit unappealing. Apart from that? Nothing else to add!
Sometimes slow pacing
While I enjoy the slice-of-life arcs thrown in with the main story, I know a lot of people aren’t fans of this type of storytelling.
Mairimashita! Iruma-kun is a recent addition to my favourite list! Despite it being new, I’ve really fallen in love with the story, characters and overall plot of this manga. If you’re a fan of supernatural stories with found-family and comedy thrown in, you’ll be sure to love this! Be sure to check out our post on the Top 20 Hand-Picked Quotes from Mairimashita!
