A review of The Gamer which is also known as Banzai and Игрок. It is an action-adventure based on life being a game, with stats and skills. It is created by author Sung Sang-Young and is illustrated by artist Sang-Ah. This manhwa gives the reader an immersion into what it’s like if your life was a game, where you could level up and gain extra skills. If I had to compare it to anything, I think the closest graphic novel would be DICE: The Cube That Changes Everything. I think it’s been an enjoyable read so far and while the storyline has been a bit up and down, it’s still pretty good.
This webtoon is pretty good as stated above. While the translation and storyline have their ups and downs – it’s been keeping me hooked! If you are a fan of webtoons such as Tower of God and DICE: The Cube That Changes Everything then you may also like this webtoon.
It starts off with our protagonist, Han Jihan, explaining that he has obtained a strange ability called “The Gamer” which allows him to see other peoples stats and even gets “quest” alerts when someone asks him to do something. He received one of these alerts when he was doing homework and from there on he explains how he gets random amounts of experience points while doing small tasks or training skills.

What Is Good About The Gamer (더 게이머)
While the storyline does have a few bumps here and there, it could also be due to the quality of the English translations I originally read. However, while reading through this graphic novel I came to realise that it was indeed pretty good and the storyline was actually really smart and addictive, while not as addictive as DICE: The Cube That Changes Everything – it was still pretty fun to read and with a lot of chapters available on Webtoons it makes it the perfect webtoon to binge!
I feel that artist Sang-Ah did an awesome job and really gave this webtoon the “game” feeling. The colour palettes used are awesome and I really like the facial expressions and character changes that happen during specific scenes. It makes the webtoon fun and enjoyable to read!
There are quite a few characters that have become my favourite, but I think Han Jihan is still my favourite. Overall I feel this webtoon has a nice balance of characters that people can both love and hate.
What Is Bad About The Gamer (더 게이머)
To be fair, I cannot think of anything which has put me off of reading this webtoon, aside from perhaps the slight up and down in the storyline – but this is more a personal opinion than anything else, so be sure to check out the webtoon and form your own thoughts!
Overall I feel that any graphic novel lover who enjoys reading things such as DICE: The Cube That Changes Everything and The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor will enjoy this awesome webtoon. Be sure to head over to Webtoons or Navier to support the creators!
