Shotgun Boy (엽총소년) Webtoon Review

A review of Shotgun Boy, a brand new action-thriller created by author Kim Carnby and illustrator Hongpil. Kim Carnby is well known for the popular webtoons; Bastard, Pigpen and Sweet Home. Shotgun Boy is only growing in popularity as each chapter is released and being a prequel to Sweet Home, you can only expect it to become better and better!

This webtoon focuses on a student, Gyuhwan Han, who is essentially alone in the world due to the absence of his mother and father. It is bound to be full of more mystery and thriller-packed action! Within the first two chapters of this new webtoon, I was hooked! It’s currently on Chapter 9 at the time of writing this review, and honestly, I just need more chapters to come out ASAP!

It is very enjoyable to read and as expected of Kim Carnby, it has an amazing storyline so far. It’s a must-read If you are a fan of Kims other works! However, be warned as this webtoon comes with a warning from the author!

Trigger Warning: This episode contains implied depictions of a school shooting, gun violence and disturbing scenes. Viewer discretion is advised.

A Small Synopsis

While he was running for his life in the woods, a bullying victim, Gyuhwan Han ends up stumbling across a wrecked truck in the middle of nowhere and he happens to find an old shotgun with just about enough shells for his classmates… It’s a recipe for disaster! Fate takes an unexpected turn when he returns to where the students are only for him to find out they are under attack by brain-eating monsters. The only thing that stands in the way of their feast is a boy with his shotgun.

What Is Good About Shotgun Boy (엽총소년)

I am a big fan of Sweet Home, it’s a very awesome thriller graphic novel and I was super excited to find out that Shotgun Boy was the prequel… as expected, the storyline is full of mystery, action and thriller!

What starts off as a normal chapter at first… takes an unexpected turn! I love it when things aren’t as they seem! However, the second chapter did not go as I expected to either – in fact, I think this was very cleverly done and really set the mood for the story.

Art Style

The art style is pretty good and it reminds me of the Sweet Home and HIVE webtoons as they both feature similar styles which I feel really sets the eerie mood. I cannot wait for the upcoming chapters, I am looking forwards to it quite a bit!

I really like the main protagonist, Gyuhwan Han. He is an average boy who is going through hardships in school, he is targeted by bullies and to be honest, he is very average overall. But he seems like he has a lot of secrets and he will develop into quite the MC!

What Is Bad About Shotgun Boy (엽총소년)

So far everything is perfect – I cannot think of one bad thing to say about Shotgun Boy, however, as the chapters progress – I will be sure to update this section if required!

Overall Conclusion

Do I think you should read this webtoon? Yes – but I will insist on you checking out Sweet Home either first or at the same time if you haven’t already. I am looking forwards to future updates and I await in anticipation to find out what will happen in the story.
