A review of Sweet Home (스위트홈) which is also known as “Seuwiteu Hom” and “Милый дом”. It is an action-thriller created by author Kim Carnby and illustrated by artist Hwang Youngchan. It gives the reader an immersion into a viral virus outbreak which turns infected into unbeatable monsters! It’s enjoyable to read and has an excellent storyline to follow. It’s a must-read if you like action and horror!
The manhwa revolves around a viral virus outbreak with unknown origins which causes the infected to experience genetic mutation into unbeatable monsters. Caught in the midst of this horror is Hyun Cha, the main protagonist, along with several other survivors from his apartment block.
Overall, I really like this manhwa and regrettably – I didn’t know about it sooner! I first watched the Netflix adaptation (which was also really good!), however, it just didn’t hit the same as the manhwa.

A Small Synopsis
Hyun Cha, an 18-year-old shut-in who has suicidal tendencies due to bullying and isolation from his peers, becomes an orphan after his family dies in an accident. He was left with nothing but a very small inheritance and the family home, with no intention of working or socialising with anyone, Hyun Cha sells the family home and moves into a block of tatty apartments.
Suddenly a viral virus outbreak with unknown origins hits the world and causes the infected to experience genetic mutations which inevitably turn them into unbeatable monsters based on their desires.
What Is Good About Sweet Home (스위트홈)
Having watched the Netflix adaptation beforehand – I kind of already knew what I was going in for. However, the manhwa and the adaptation differ in many ways such as adding characters and changing the circumstances of the protagonist. I can safely say that Netflix should have kept to the original as much as possible!
With the above said, I really enjoyed both. I am currently 60+ chapters into the manhwa and loving it!
I am a big fan of the art style and I think it suits the idea of the manhwa great. The artist did an outstanding job and also made it fun to follow.
The characters from this manhwa have really good chemistry and they just click really well. I am really impressed by the artist’s perception of their features and characteristics. Although, there are some certain characters which make me angry… if you’ve watched the Netflix adaptation before reading the manhwa – then you could probably already guess which ones!
What Is Bad About Sweet Home (스위트홈)
One thing which I am a little bit disappointed about – is the chapter length. I have found that the chapters are pretty short and leave you at a moment of cliffhanger nearly every time. This makes it a little annoying as you will have to keep reading until you get to a point you can stop without wondering what will happen next. This is possibly done for the suspense and scare factor to leave readers wondering… but it’s not the end of the world and is tolerable.
With the positives and negatives out of the way – I can wholeheartedly recommend anyone who has watched the Netflix adaptation to immediately pick this up! It’s simply a work of art and one of the best action-horrors I have read to date!
